Rev Carol Kress – Lead Minister
Tell us about your family:
I’m single and live with two cats named Sandy and Lou. They are always happy to see me, never reject my cooking, and don’t talk back – could anyone ask for more? My extended family is all around Iowa. Mom lives in Independence. My sister and husband are in Waterloo. And my nieces, nephews, and grand-nieces live in Waukee, Iowa City, Cedar Rapids, Des Moines, IA another in Houston, TX.
What do you do at SUMC?
I am privileged to be the lead minister at SUMC and to have the opportunity to work with a great staff, as well church members and friends.
What’s Your Favorite Restauran
Blackstone on Scott Blvd., Iowa City
What’s on your iPod?
My taste in music is ecletic. I listen to everything from the Beatles to Mozart, Allison Krauss, Point of Grace, the Harlem Gospel Singers, Enya, and Leo Kottke.
What’s on Your Bookshelf?
THE HELP, by Kathryn Stockett, which I just completed. THE STORY OF STUFF by Anne Leonard was an eye-opener to the way we crowd our lives and planet with things of little use. Next will be THE NOTICER by Andy Andrews. It looks like a great book to discuss with the SUMC Reads Book Club.
What do you do in your free time?
Since I’m new to the area I haven’t been approached to assist with many committee organizations (yet). So instead, I stay busy with the church and my interests in travel, rock collecting, photography, knitting. It’s fun to spend time with my friends and family too.
